    easily installed, works well
I was able to install this in about an hour. It can be installed either parallel or perpendicular to the rafters, thanks to multiple available bolt holes in the plates. The included hardware seemed adequate although it wasn’t stamped with a grade. The pulleys provide sufficient mechanical advantage for me to singlehandedly raise the largest Thule box (Motion XXL), and fully raised the garage door will clear underneath. The included rope is very long, so this should work for a long kayak as well. It’s worth the money.

Substantial build and worth the money
I am pleased with the quality of these and how close you can raise the to the ceiling -see pictures. I looked at a bunch of lifts before finding these the best option. The rope is definitely adequate, the pulleys well constructed, and the suspension straps have plenty of length to accommodate watercraft with larger girth. and plenty of rope for those who have high garage ceilings.Installation was easy once the ceiling trusses were located and positions for each mount was determined. These I used for kayaks. I have since purchased another lift from this manufacturer that is made for storage of my rooftop cargo box.

Suited my purpose but won’t be for everyone
I was looking for a product that would hoist my rarely used Thule XL cargo box off the floor and out of the way, and as the photos indicate, it did its job nicely. However, if I needed to hoist something heavier and/or something that I needed to access regularly, then this would not have been the best solution. The components appear well made and sturdy, including the heavy-duty lag bolts. The installation instructions are fine, but I’d highly suggest watching the video several times, also. Together, and with the proper tools, I had no problem installing the hoist in under 2 hours, including locating the studs, measuring, aligning, etc. In addition to the tools suggested, I recommend using a laser for alignment, because it’s a lot easier than trying to use a long straight edge when standing on a ladder, particularly if you’ll be installing this yourself, as I did. I’d also suggest a pair of work gloves, as I’ll explain down below.Once I got the hoist all set up, I attached my Thule box (weighing about 47 lbs), which had some items inside (weighing probably an additional 25 lbs). So total weight was about 72 lbs, half of the 150 lbs that the hoist is rated for. When I went to hoist the box, I found it a lot heavier than I imagined it would feel. I read somewhere that the pulley-system provide a 2:1 mechanical advantage — which I have no way of measuring — but which I find hard to believe.I also found it difficult to raise the box without it tilting on one end or the other, since each side of the looped rope controls one end or the other of the item attached.Still, with a friend helping by standing underneath and pushing up while I was pulling, I got the box up and out of the way.The next day, I decided that I didn’t like the way it was listing a little to one side (because the contents inside the box had shifted), so I decided the lower the box and rearrange the contents. This is where the gloves I suggested would have been very handy, because I got rope burn as I tried to slowly and carefully lower the box back to the ground. And as I tried to raise the box (by myself, this time), near disaster as I was trying to raise one end that was lagging (recall I said that each side of the looped rope controls one end) and lost control of the other, so that one end came crashing down.It was at this point that I decided that the 72 lbs was too heavy (as well as not being balanced, due to the shifting contents inside the box), and I removed the contents. After I did this, I had no issue hoisting the 47 lb box, so that it’s flush and neat against the ceiling, as the pictures show.I have no doubt that the hoist could hold the 150 lbs it’s rated for, but as I found out, I certainly can’t imagine trying to raise and lower such a heavy weight, or doing so on a regular basis. But if you use the hoist to store an item, such as an empty cargo box or surf boards, as is pictured in the ad, then it’s a great solution.

    Practical, affordable mounting.
It performs its functions reliably, it fixes securely. It’s more comfortable to lift large and heavy items with a helper. We are satisfied with the purchase!

Great space saver in a busy garage
I needed to get the Thule XT XL off the ground and make some floor space. Still have a lot of industrial shelves to install and was tempted in placing my Thule on a top shelf but then realized would be difficult to bring down… so the pulley system was the best way.Instructions are excellent … so much better than average instructions these days.Hardware looks and feel quality ! Hardware is well sized with sturdy lag bolts. Belts and straps are also quality. Will eventually cut or trim the excess now that I know what is needed for my cargo box.Hardest part was reaching the high beam in a pitched roof with a 6ft ladder but I am tall and long reach. Pre-drilling hole with a 3m then bore to 5mm bit a MUST for the lag bolts. My install was easily done by myself in about an hour mostly reading instructions and measuring twice (you know the saying). I had to place my brake pulley close the to front roll up (awkward) but only suitable as I plan on adding hanging shelves past the roll up.Otherwise I would suggest placing the brake pulley and rope tie down toward the back wall of the garage and avoid my situation.Note that my box can go very high and clear the space over the roll up door… a space usually useless in most garages.Makes the storing of the extra rope a bit more problematic but I plan on installing a little basket to collect the extra line.Overall it’s only been a day but I am super impressed and find the rig well built.Other reviewers mentioned a bit of a squeeze of the Thule box and in notice it as well, but since it is closed and locked it should be fine. This system works for my needs and I recommend it.

  6. Arthur Smith

    Works as advertised
Easy for one person to install and lift the cargo box. Frees up space in my shed by hanging it in my garage

  7. Katherine V

    Perfect for my garage
This pulley system works perfectly for my needs. It was easy to install after watching a YouTube video. I highly recommend reading the instructions while watching the video as the instructions are not all that easy to follow. It took about a half hour for my husband and me to install. Our rooftop carrier is now up out of our way. It is so easy to lower and hoist it back up when we are done.

  8. John Brown

This is a relatively simple product and appears to be well engineered although only time will tell if this is the case. Fitting for me was quite challenging as my garage ceiling has been plasterboarded and is approx 10ft high. Would be much easier to fit otherwise. Instructions are very easy to follow and include links to helpful videos.

  9. Rick A.

Using for my canoe. Excellent fabrication, strong and love how it can store the canoe close to the ceiling as opposed to other makes. Addition wheel for cord makes a huge difference. Worth the premium paid.

  10. Celoness

Very easy to put together.Worked very well.

  11. David M.

Nicely engineered. Good instructions. Easy to use once installed. Comes with an enormous length of rope which most won’t need. Expensive.

  12. roger

Upon opening the box it was pretty obvious that this is a quality product. The sturdy straps and twin cam locking pulleys enables large, heavy or imbalanced items to be safely raised, stored and lowered.
