Alternating Pressure Air – Best Relief for Bed Sores & Skin Ulcers
Relieve pressure, prevent bed sores, and enhance comfort with the best alternating pressure air mattress. Our product offers exceptional relief for patients with limited mobility, reducing the risks associated with prolonged bed rest. Whether you’re looking for a low air loss alternating pressure mattress or a reliable system to prevent pressure ulcers, our mattress delivers.
What is an Alternating Pressure Air Mattress?
An alternating pressure air mattress uses a unique system to inflate and deflate air cells alternately, ensuring that pressure is evenly distributed across the mattress surface. This prevents pressure spots and enhances blood circulation, making it ideal for patients who are bedridden or have mobility limitations. The system is designed to create a therapeutic wave-like effect that promotes healing and comfort.
Low Air Loss Alternating Pressure – How Does It Work?
A low air loss alternating pressure mattress provides constant air flow to reduce skin maceration and improve comfort. By using a combination of air cells and continuous airflow, this mattress ensures optimal skin health, especially for those with compromised skin conditions. This mattress type is often compared to the traditional alternating pressure model, with enhanced benefits for moisture control.
Low Air Loss Mattress vs. Alternating Pressure – Which is Right for You?
While both types of mattresses aim to prevent pressure ulcers, the low air loss mattress vs alternating comparison often boils down to skin management. The alternating pressure mattress provides variable pressure to relieve pressure spots, while the low air loss model includes airflow technology to keep the skin dry and prevent moisture buildup. This section will help you understand the differences and choose the right one for your needs.

Excellent purchase with one minor, acceptable, caveat!
I purchased the Vive Alternating Pressure Pad w/electric pump for my 79 year old father who is bedridden due to a stroke. We had been using the manual pump air mattresses that we’d bring home from the hospital, only to have them pop after about a month’s use. Well, after going through 3 of those and dad always complaining of his body hurting after they’d deflate a little, I decided on this purchase! Boy, am I glad I did!!This air mattress, just after one night’s use, has already had an immediately positive effect on my dad. Set to the firmest setting, what is recommended, had my dad sleeping like a baby and zero complaints of body aches!! He looks like a king content on his throne now!!My review for the mechanics of the equipment is this: the mattress is of high quality material, durable, soft, flexible, and comfortable to the touch with little to no plastic or rubber odor, which I greatly appreciate! Fits the Medicare provided hospital bed perfectly, and adjusts with the bed when raising or lowering either the foot or head! The electric pump is extremely quiet and does exactly as described, cycling every 6 minutes. I can actually see my dad’s body rise and fall, ever so slightly, as the air gets redistributed through the channels! My one observation that I had not read about or anticipated was the heat that is produced by the little electrical power box that hooks onto the foot of the bed. After about a 5 hours of use, the room where my dad stays became very warm, as did my dad. I also would get very warm every time I went in to check on him or tend to him. I thought it was just us and the unusually warm temperature outside. Then it dawned on me that it was the power box. This is the only ongoing power item in the room sized 20×20 ft. While it’s not a deal breaker in keeping the item, cause it’s benefits far outweigh this one minor caveat, it is something that we have to consider. So, here’s what we’ve done to accommodate the slight rise in temperature: we’ve changed our fleece winter sheets back to crisp cotton, which dad found quite refreshing, and put a little fan in the corner of the room to circulate the cooler air, the air closer to dad’s bed seemed to get a bit stagnant with the extra heat. All that being said, and after making the slight modifications to accommodate the new air mattress, we are most pleased with this purchase! My only regret is that I didn’t make it month’s ago when first home with dad!

Bought this for my Father
Amazing product my dad who is bedbound absolutely loves this. Heâs complained about back pain and now says heâs so much more comfortable. If youâre wondering this product is very quiet. You donât even really know. Itâs running hate that I did not order this sooner. Five stars.

Good Product
Best air mattress I bought. It was wonderful to use when my Mom was bed ridden and it kept her from getting bed sore and anything else.

Great great the price
This has worked good for my husband. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t stay on the mattress very well. You need to have straps that fix on corners. Other then that it’s a great product. It has really helped keep my husband comfortable!

My mother loves it and it’s doing what it’s supposed to do.
I was skeptical to purchase this from Amazon because I wanted to make sure my mom would be comfortable and that it would at least be equal in quality to the one she had when she was on hospice care. Over 6 months ago, my mother developed a bed sore. Some time later she was placed on hospice and the agency ordered an alternating air mattress pad to try and make her more comfortable. It worked. After a lot of hard work and diligence the bed sore healed. My mom also improved to the point that she was eventually taken off of hospice and when she was, they took the air pressure mattress. Within 24 hours of the mattress being removed, she started complaining about not being able to sleep well and not being able to get comfortable. We also started noticing a small red spot coming back. I did some research and decided to take a chance ordering from Amazon. I’m so glad I did. The price was reasonable, it was quite easy to install onto her bed and set-up. The best part is she said she was once again comfortable. There are few different settings you can use to determine the firmness you’d like for the mattress to be. Also, it’s supper easy to clean. Just a soapy damp cloth, wipe the stain and dry and it’s ready to go again. Very pleased.

Budget price / premium product
Purchased this for my bedridden 98 year old father. Had purchased this same unit over 3 years ago for him. It worked great and kept him free of bedsores. The compressor went bad and would only inflate half the pad. I immediately purchased the same item for him again. It runs silently and does a great job inflating and deflating the mattress pad. I never thought that such a reasonably priced item would last that long.

Bought for an older relative after they had suffered a broken hip and were having to spend more time in bed. Box on ours came in a pretty poor state, but mattress and pump inside appeared unused. We tried it out at home before taking it abroad to our relative. The mattress is suprisingly long (it covered the length of our 200cm bed easily).Using it the first time you just need to make sure that you manually straighten out any kinks or it won’t fill. Once that’s done, it fills and works well.A word of warning – it’s nigh on impossible to get all the air out if you want to pack it up again.Pump reasonably quiet. Our relative found it did give relief and they were definitely more comfortable. They were starting to get some sore areas and this seemed to halt that.Coincidentally, we also shopped for a seat cushion around the same time and ended up (not through planning) with one from Vive also. That was also excellent and helped our relative a lot.

The mattress arrived very quickly, but I could not use it as it was wired for American 120 volt instead of 240 volt Australian- my fault for not checking first. Returning it was managed fairly.

I bought this for my husband when he came out of hospital having broken his pelvis in multiple places – it was easy to assemble although the pipes are quite stiff to get on , but they stay on – itâs a very large single size, nice and long and tucks in at foot if the bed – I didnât want to get a hospital bed as heâs tall – itâs been going 24 hours a day for several weeks – the little engine is very quiet and sits under the bed – the switch has a noticeable green light so you can see if itâs on or off from a distance – I really recommend this – forget the more expensive ones ! I donât know about long term but itâs certainly ideal for post surgery – thank you
